Lovingly Crafted Memory Quilts

I am asked what goes into creating a Heirloom Quality Memory Quilt. Most people are surprised at the amount of work that goes into creating your Memory Quilt.

The Process (of Heart Quilt)

The process starts when I receive the bundles of clothes

  1. Sort through the received clothing, selecting appropriate materials, colors, sizes
  2. Wash the selected clothing to remove wrinkles and dreaded fabric softener
  3. Iron the clothing
  4. Disassemble the clothing
  5. Cut the clothing into the desired design shapes
  6. Piecing of the shapes into other shapes
  7. Ironing
  8. Pinning
  9. Piecing of the shapes then add joining pieces into rows
  10. More ironing
  11. More pinning
  12. Piecing of rows adding sashing into the full size quilt
  13. More ironing
  14. Apply the applique hearts
  15. More pinning
  16. Add the border to complete the quilt
  17. More ironing
  18. Size the batting
  19. Size the backing material
  20. Build the quilt sandwich (Quilt top, batting and backing)
  21. Load the quilt sandwich onto longarm machine
  22. Stich the Edge to Edge Pattern
  23. Make the binding
  24. Attach the binding
  25. Embroidery of the tag
  26. Attach the tag, by hand stitching
  27. Inspect the finished product

Why the extra work in sashing the fabrics and appliqueing the hearts?

Color coordination, pattern coordination is very difficult when using clothing. We believe the added effort of sashing the fabrics, ensure the Memory Quilt will be beautiful and the hearts reflect the love for the dearly departed.

Payment plan

Due to the extensive amount of labor involved and the selection of Heirloom Quality fabrics for the sashing, borders, batting and backing contribute to the high cost of the Memory Quilt, I am willing to start your quilt with a minimum deposit of $300.00 and accept the balance divided over 3 bi-weekly payments.

Work will start on receipt of first deposit and will complete 3-6 weeks depending on the selected design
